Projects and Product Development

TDI works on many different products mostly related to agro and food industry and biotechnology. Scientific as well as technological aspects are considered, but also business development and marketing issues are addressed during the stages of product development. Below is a list of some of TDI's projects and product developments.

Protective coatings for greenhouses. TDI has developed an environmentally friendly protective coating for greenhouses for Houweling International bv. The new coating, which has an excellent price-performance ratio, was presented by Houweling at the Hortifair 2004 in Amsterdam. Please visit this website for more information.

Coco peat. TDI has developed a new process to cheaply produce cocos peat for large scale horticulture applications. The cocos peat is produced at a facility in Sri Lanka by our TDI-subsidiary Bucotec BV. TDI is also involved in other products originating from coco wood.

Natural crop protection agents. TDI is project leader in a large consortium of industrial partners and research institutes that studies the use of natural crop protection agents for agriculture and horticulture.

Peanut butter factory in Papua New Guinea. TDI has been involved in a feasibility study and business plan for restarting peanut butter production in Papua New Guinea.

V-Mabs. Following our cooperation with TDI-company CatchMabs we are working on the development of molecular affinity bodies that can bind viruses. Applications are in the field of virus protection in hospitals, military etc.

Sustainable Thatch (verduurzaamd riet). TDI has developed a method to improve the life-expectancy of thatched roofs. The product is currently marketed through TDI’s daughter Thatchtec bv (see also TDI-companies).

Ozone. TDI is involved in a project that aims to develop innovative ideas to increase the stability of ozone for various applications such as legionella control, water purification, and horticulture.

Bacteriophages. TDI is involved in projects on the use of bacteriophages for various applications.

Vitabric Straw. TDI has co-developed the Vitabric Straw® which is used in flower bouquets. The straw includes flower food and the straw is used for stirring to maximise consumer convenience. See also the website of Vitabric.

Low cost wall paints. TDI has developed an ultra-low-cost starch based paint with remarkably good properties. This unique paint can be shipped as a powder; only addition of water is necessary for end use. The product has excellent adhesive properties to stone, wood, glass and metal.
